Sapper Wilbert was born in Leeds, 25 Apr 1899 and was called up 24 May 1917. He served at the Royal Engineers Signals Depot in Canterbury and was discharged 13 Dec 1919 and died 17 Sep 1978. Date: 1919

This photograph postcard, one of eighteen in the collection of Sapper Harold Wilbert, depicts a group of friends with motorcycles, dated 1919. Sapper Wilbert, born in Leeds on April 25, 1899, served with the Royal Engineers Signals Depot in Canterbury during World War I. He was called up on May 24, 1917, and was discharged on December 13, 1919. Some of the postcards in the collection bear signatures and dates, providing insight into the people and events documented during his military service. In this image, Sapper Wilbert and his companions are seen posing with their motorcycles, likely taken during their downtime or leave from duty. The camaraderie and spirit of adventure are palpable in this snapshot of a moment in history. Sapper Wilbert went on to live until 1978, leaving behind this precious collection of memories from his time as a despatch rider in the Royal Engineers.
