EDITORS COMMENTS
HMS Majestic: A Majestic-Class Pre-Dreadnought Battleship of the Royal Navy This evocative photograph captures the majestic HMS Majestic, a proud symbol of British naval power and prowess. Built between 1906 and 1908, HMS Majestic was a pre-dreadnought battleship of the Royal Navy, part of the Majestic class. With a displacement of over 15,000 tons and armed with ten 12-inch guns, she was a formidable vessel, flying the Union Flag high. The image, taken in 1908, shows HMS Majestic in all her glory as she sailed the seas, ready to defend the interests of the British Empire. The battleship's intricate design, with its multiple decks, turrets, and masts, is a testament to the advanced engineering and naval architecture of the time. However, HMS Majestic's story did not end on the open waters. On 27th May 1915, during the Dardanelles Campaign, she was torpedoed by a U-boat at Cape Helles. Despite valiant efforts to save the ship, she sank, taking the lives of 49 brave men with her. This poignant photograph serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the crew of HMS Majestic and the broader British naval forces during the First World War. It is a powerful reminder of the courage and determination of those who served, and the enduring legacy of the Royal Navy.
