Born in Switzerland in 1822, Raff's musical talents were evident from an early age. He studied under some of the greatest musical minds of his time, including Felix Mendelssohn and Albert Lortzing. Raff's compositions spanned various genres, including symphonies, operas, and chamber music. His most famous works, such as the "Symphonic Variations on a Theme by Paganini" and the opera "Franc-Nohain," showcased his innovative approach to harmony and melody. In 1877, Raff was appointed as the director of the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt, a position he held until his death in 1882.
