Other ranks, cap badge, 1914 (c).Associated with Essex Regiment.Within a wreath of oak, the Castle and Key of Gibraltar surmounted by a sphinx resting upon a frosted tablet bearing the burnished honour: EGYPT. Upon the base of the wreath a frosted scroll bearing the burnished title: THE ESSEX REGIMENT. The sphinx and scroll in white metal, the remainder in gilding-metal. Brass slider fitting upon the reverse. Date: circa 1914
