EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Green Dragon Public House, located in the vibrant and historic area of Hackney, London. The pub, with its distinctive red brick exterior and ornate signage, exudes a sense of tradition and community. Established in the 1930s, the Green Dragon has been a beloved local institution for over eight decades. The image offers a glimpse into the past, inviting us to imagine the lively conversations and shared laughter that have taken place within its walls. The back of the print reveals the pub's rich history, detailing its trading record from 1934 and 1958. The Green Dragon, Hackney, London E9 7NU, was a cherished watering hole for generations of locals until its unfortunate closure and demolition in July 2018. The photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the pub's existence and the memories it holds for the community. The pub, often referred to as a 'boozer,' 'bar,' or 'public house,' was a vital part of the social fabric of Hackney. It was not affiliated with Hoare & Company Limited, but rather an independent business that brought people together, providing a space for connection and camaraderie. This photograph is not only a visual document of a bygone era but also a tribute to the enduring spirit of community and the importance of the local pub in our lives.
