Woodwards Garden, San Francisco, California, was a combination amusement park, museum, art gallery, zoo and aquarium operating from 1866 to 1891. Carrying about a hundred seated men women and children enjoying a leisurely merry-go-round ride, moving by the aid of oars and three sails round the centre pivot, to which it is attached by six wire ropes.
