EDITORS COMMENTS
This powerful print captures the intense Battle at the Schilberg Cross-roads during the Second World War in 1945. The sketch depicts a fierce confrontation between British and German troops as they fought for control of the strategic cross-roads in the town of Schilberg, Netherlands. In the center of the image, a menacing King Tiger Tank looms large, forcing Allied Sherman tanks to retreat from their position on the right side of the sketch. Despite this setback, Allied infantry soldiers stand their ground on foot, determined to hold their position against overwhelming enemy forces. On the left side of the sketch lies a knocked-out German anti-tank gun, surrounded by its fallen crew members. The devastating aftermath of war is evident in this scene of destruction and loss. The Battle at the Schilberg Cross-roads was part of the larger Allied Operation Blackcock offensive aimed at pushing back German forces and liberating occupied territories. This historical moment captured in this sketch serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by brave soldiers on both sides during one of history's darkest chapters.
