EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases Douglas DC-3A XA-FUV Xicontenatl (msn 3261), a historic aviation icon belonging to Aeronaves de Mexico. Originally named Mainliner Youngstown, this DC-3A served United Airlines from November 1940 to July 1948. In 1946, the plane was exported to Mexico and transferred to LAMSA (Lineas Aereas Mineras S.A.). Later on, the aircraft's ownership changed to XA-JBR, with its history during the 1960s remaining a mystery. In the subsequent years, XA-FUV was exported to the US and operated by Aero JBR in Texas as XB-FBG. Tragically, on 21 May 2002, the plane met its end when it crashed into a lake near Laredo, Texas, as XB-JBR. This photograph, taken circa 1960, captures the Douglas DC-3A Xicontenatl in its prime, showcasing its classic design and the rich history it carries. The DC-3A, with its iconic silhouette and significant role in aviation history, continues to be a beloved figure in the world of flight and transportation.
