EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, taken at the Maidenhead Fishery Club in 1931, a young Prince Philip of Greece poses with members of the Milford Haven family. The Prince, who would later become the Duke of Edinburgh, is seen in the center, flanked by the Marquess and Marchioness of Milford Haven, George and Nada, and their daughter, Lady Tatiana Mountbatten. The Dowager Marchioness, Victoria, Princess Louis of Battenberg, is seated on a chair, with her brother, Count de Torby, standing to her right. Prince Philip and the Milford Havens had a close relationship, as the Prince frequently spent his school holidays with the family. George, the Marquess, was the Prince's uncle on his mother's side, and the Dowager Marchioness, Victoria, was his grandmother. The Milford Haven family was of Russian and German descent, with Princess Victoria being the granddaughter of Queen Victoria. The Maidenhead Fishery Club, a prestigious fishing and social club located in Berkshire, England, provided the perfect setting for this charming gathering. The photograph captures a moment of relaxation and camaraderie among the royals and nobility of the time. The elegantly dressed group exudes an air of refinement and sophistication, transporting us back to a bygone era of royalty and high society.
