EDITORS COMMENTS
This image graces the cover of the March 1927 issue of Tatler, featuring the elegant Marchioness of Milford Haven, née Nada Torby, and her two enchanting children, David, Earl of Medina, and Lady Tatiana Mountbatten. Born as Countess Nada Torby, the Marchioness was the daughter of Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich of Russia, a member of the Romanov dynasty. In 1916, she married Prince George of Battenberg, becoming a member of the esteemed British royal family. The photograph, taken in the late 1920s, showcases the Marchioness in her regal beauty, dressed in an exquisite gown adorned with intricate beadwork and pearls. Her two children, David and Tatiana, flank her, displaying the striking resemblance to their mother and the grace and charm that would come to define their own lives. David, who was born in 1917, would later succeed his father as the 7th Marquess of Milford Haven and the 9th Earl of Medina. Lady Tatiana, born in 1920, would go on to marry Sir Henry Abel Smith, becoming the mother of the renowned British journalist, broadcaster, and author, Andrew Marr. This portrait, a testament to the elegance and refinement of the era, offers a glimpse into the lives of the British aristocracy and the fascinating connections between European royal families.
