This photograph captures a moment in time from the 1930s, as a determined woman steps out of the back of a covered van, ready to embark on her new role as a police officer. The woman, who was previously seen being fitted with her uniform (11007562 and 11007563), and engaged in a conversation with a woman police sergeant (11007566), is making history as one of the first female police officers in Britain. During this era, women's rights and employment opportunities were expanding, and the Metropolitan Police Force began recruiting women to serve as police officers in 1914. However, it wasn't until the 1930s that the number of women officers began to increase significantly. The woman in the photograph wears a crisp, white shirt with a striped tie, a traditional part of the police uniform at the time. She also dons a hat, adding a sense of authority and professionalism to her appearance. As she steps out of the van, she exudes confidence and a sense of purpose, ready to face the challenges of her new career.
