The thing about Flower Power is - its everywhere. Anyone

The thing about Flower Power is - its everywhere. Anyone, as the beautiful people say so beautifully, can grab a piece of it. If they want it, of course. Take Big Emma, now. Hardly a beauty, any hippie would be first to agree. What with those tiny eyes, massive jowls and whiskers on her chin. But never underestimate the power of a flower. Even someone like Emma can be made to look happy. In fact, if Emma wasn t hippo, we d say that mighty mouth was actually curved into a smile. Thats Flower Power, you see. It can change even three and a half hundredweight of hippo into...well, a hippie. Emma is a pygmy hippo, actually. A little smaller than most. She came to Bristol Zoo from Switzerland three years ago. The flowers? They could have come from anywhere. But theres really only one word for them. Beautiful. August 1967 P012640

The Power of Flower - Transforming Emma the Hippo into a Hippie

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this print from August 1967, we witness the incredible influence of Flower Power. The essence of this cultural movement is beautifully captured as it permeates every corner, even reaching unexpected recipients like Big Emma, a pygmy hippo residing at Bristol Zoo. Emma may not fit conventional standards of beauty with her small eyes, massive jowls, and chin whiskers. However, underestimating the power of a flower would be a grave mistake. As depicted in the image, even someone like Emma can be made to radiate happiness and joy through the magic touch of flowers. Her mighty mouth seems to curve into an almost-smile that transcends her natural demeanor. Despite being three and a half hundredweight in weight (a little smaller than most hippos), Emma effortlessly embraces her newfound identity as she embodies the spirit of Flower Power. This transformation showcases how anyone can embrace this movement if they desire it. The origin of these enchanting flowers remains unknown; they could have come from anywhere. Yet one word perfectly encapsulates their presence - beautiful. This photograph serves as a timeless reminder that Flower Power knows no boundaries or limitations when it comes to spreading its vibrant energy throughout society.
