EDITORS COMMENTS
Capturing the essence of rebellion and style, this print showcases a group of Teddy Boys in their full gear. From left to right, we have John Roberts from Maerdy, Brian Davies also from Maerdy, Meirion Mush Williams hailing from Ystrad, Rob Jailhouse George making a statement with his presence, Alwyn Phillips representing Tylorstown, Ken Williams joining in the fashion parade from Ystrad, and Phil Bomper Thomas adding his Aberdare flair. Taken on January 21st, 1978 by Alan Grist for Western Mail and Echo Copyright Image, this image perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the 1970s rock n roll era. These young men donned their das and drainpipes with pride as they embraced the jive culture that defined their generation. Beyond just a gang or social group, these Teddy Boys were pioneers of self-expression through fashion. Their drapes exuded an air of sophistication while simultaneously challenging societal norms. With every step they took to the beat of rock n roll music playing in their hearts; they became icons who pushed boundaries and defied convention. This print serves as a time capsule into an era where individuality reigned supreme. It reminds us that even amidst turbulent times there was always room for creativity and personal expression. Let it transport you back to a time when rebellion had its own unique sense of style.
