EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment in history as Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, is seen alongside his friend, possibly Guy Wildenstein. The picture was taken in France during August 1978 and showcases Prince Charles's passion for polo. In this particular shot, he can be seen on the polo field and hut, fully immersed in a match. Prince Charles had the privilege of being invited by French millionaire Guy Wildenstein to participate in this exhilarating sport. Known as one of the wealthiest individuals in France at that time, Wildenstein not only hosted the prince but also captained his polo team. During his stay in France, Prince Charles resided at the luxurious Royal Hotel in Deauville. It is worth noting that back then, a night's stay cost an impressive sum of one hundred pounds (equivalent to a significant amount today). The photograph itself holds immense historical significance and offers us a glimpse into both royal life and elite sportsmanship during the 1970s. With its rich visual details capturing moments of leisure amidst competition, it serves as a testament to Prince Charles's active involvement outside his official duties. Taken by Bill Rowntree on August 20th, 1978, this image from Memory Lane Prints transports us back to an era where elegance met athleticism on picturesque fields like those found in Deauville.
