Nylon comb advert from DuPont. Advert for DuPont nylon combs and toothbrushes, from the August-September 1952 issue of the DuPont Magazine (volume 46, number 4, page 44). Founded in 1913, this magazine featured the products and activities of the DuPont Company. By the 1930s DuPont (founded in the USA in 1802, 150th anniversary noted at lower right) had become one of the worlds largest chemical companies. It expanded into other areas, with an emphasis on materials science. Nylon was a new material discovered by DuPont in 1935. Full-scale production started in 1939, and nylon was used in products such as toothbrushes and stockings
