Shukhov broadcasting tower

The Shukhov radio tower, Moscow, photographed at night. Also known as the Shabolovka tower, this broadcasting tower was designed by architect Vladimir Shukhov to serve the Russian capital. The tower is 160 metres tall and is made from a lattice of steel known as a hyperboloid - the vertical steel components describe hyperbolas over the surface of the conical tower. This design minimised wind loading on the structure. It was built in 1920-22 and is found on Shabolovka Street a few kilometres south of the Kremlin

Designed by renowned architect Vladimir Shukhov, this towering structure stands at an impressive height of 160 meters and serves as a vital communication hub for the Russian capital. Illuminated against the night sky, its vibrant orange lighting creates a mesmerizing spectacle. The unique design of this lattice steel tower is truly remarkable.
