Five-year-old Denise Holmes and her sister Nicola, two, now have a windmill at

Five-year-old Denise Holmes and her sister Nicola, two, now have a windmill at the bottom of their garden at Littlehampton, Sussex. It was made as a play house for them by their father, carpenter Victor Holmes, who used wood from an old fence that had to be taken down. The girls are now waiting for their father to make some furniture, scaled to match the eight-foot-high mill.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming photo print, we see five-year-old Denise Holmes and her two-year-old sister Nicola enjoying their new playhouse at the bottom of their garden in Littlehampton, Sussex. The playhouse is no ordinary structure; it is a beautifully crafted windmill made by their talented father, Victor Holmes, who happens to be a skilled carpenter. Using wood salvaged from an old fence that needed to be taken down, Victor created a whimsical haven for his daughters. The girls eagerly await the next phase of their imaginative adventure as they anticipate their father's promise to furnish the playhouse with scaled-down furniture matching the eight-foot-high mill. Their excitement radiates through the photograph, capturing a moment frozen in time on April 20th, 1959. This image not only showcases the creativity and resourcefulness of Victor Holmes but also highlights the joyous innocence of childhood. It reminds us of simpler times when children found delight in simple pleasures like playing make-believe in homemade structures rather than being consumed by technology or commercial distractions. Through this snapshot captured by Topography, we are transported back to an era where imagination reigned supreme and family bonds were strengthened through shared experiences. It serves as a timeless reminder that sometimes all children need is love, creativity, and a little bit of magic to create lasting memories.
