British soldiers at an event in London...to celebrate the two hundredth anniversary of the enrolment of that distinguished corps by the gallant and celebrated General Monck...The Coldstreamers served through the Peninsula, and at Waterloo their bravery was of the highest possible importance to the allied armies...'. The banquet was held in...an apartment of great magnificence...Two long tables were arranged on either side of the room with a cross table, together affording seats for 140 guests, and exhibiting a magnificent display of the choicest plate. The apartment was superbly illuminated, and when the guests were seated the effect was extremely grand. This photograph, taken in 1850, depicts the Grand Banquet of the Officers of the Coldstream Guards held in the magnificent apartments of St. James's Palace, London. The occasion was organized to celebrate the two hundredth anniversary of the enrolment of this esteemed corps by the gallant and celebrated General Monck. The Coldstream Guards, a distinguished regiment of the British Army, had served with great valor in the Peninsula War and at Waterloo, their bravery being of the utmost importance to the allied armies. The banquet was held in an apartment of great magnificence, adorned with opulent furnishings and exquisite decor. Two long tables were arranged on either side of the room, with a cross table in the center, providing seating for 140 esteemed guests. The tables were laden with the choicest plate, creating a magnificent display of culinary delights. The apartment was further enhanced by the brilliant illumination, casting an enchanting glow over the scene. Behind each chair, proudly displayed on either side, were the colors of the regiment.
