The painting, annotated as Cynanchum crassifolium, is an accurate representation of this beautiful and intricate flowering plant. Marsdenia mollissima is a member of the Apocynaceae family, specifically the Asclepiadoideae subfamily, and is native to South America. It is an angiosperm, a type of flowering plant that produces seeds enclosed in an ovary.
