VE Day: Triumph and Jubilation in London, 1945 On this historic day in May 1945, the long-awaited Victory in Europe (VE) Day brought an end to the devastating and arduous Second World War in Europe. The war-weary British public erupted in a wave of jubilation, as this photograph from Mary Evans Picture Library poignantly captures.
