Rhodes, born on July 5, 1853, in Bishop's Stortford, England, would go on to become a key player in the political and economic development of Southern Africa. The image, taken from The Keasbury-Gordon Photograph Archive Collection at Mary Evans Prints Online, showcases Rhodes in formal attire, with a stern yet determined expression on his face.
