This print captures the larger-than-life presence of The Giant Machnow at The London Hippodrome in 1905. Fedor Machnow, standing at an astonishing 9 feet 8 inches tall, was a true spectacle of his time. Born in 1876 near Viciebsk, then part of the Russian Empire (now Belarus), he became known as 'The Russian Giant'.
In this image, Machnow is seen towering outside the London Hippodrome, with his wife by his side in a dark coat and his manager looking up at him in awe. The sheer size and stature of Machnow are truly remarkable, making him a popular attraction wherever he went.
