EDITORS COMMENTS
This elegant photograph captures Prince Eitel Friedrich of Prussia and his wife, Duchess Sophia Charlotte of Oldenburg, on the occasion of their wedding on May 5, 1908. The Prince, whose full title was Wilhelm Eitel Friedrich Christian Karl, was a member of the German princely House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, ruling the Prussian Crown Prince from 1906 until his death in 1925. His bride, Sophia Charlotte, was the eldest daughter of the Grand Duke Frederick Augustus II of Oldenburg and Princess Anna of Russia. Their wedding was an important event in the European royal circles, with many distinguished guests in attendance. The couple's involvement in planning and designing their wedding was a reflection of their shared interests and class. Prince Eitel Friedrich was known for his interest in the Olympic Games and the development of ocean liners, while Duchess Sophia Charlotte was an accomplished artist and designer. The photograph shows the couple in their wedding attire, with Prince Eitel Friedrich wearing the uniform of the Prussian Army, and Duchess Sophia Charlotte in a beautiful white gown and veil. The handwritten date on the bottom right corner of the print confirms the authenticity of the image, making it an invaluable addition to any collection of early 20th-century ephemera, royalty, or Anglo-Irish society. The signature of the photographer, Henry Aldridge & Son Ltd., is also present, attesting to the professional quality of the print.
