EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning photograph captures the sleek and elegant lines of the Handley Page HP137 Jestream, registration number G-AXUM, as it soars through the sky. The Handley Page HP137 Jestream was a British transport aircraft designed and manufactured by the Handley Page Aircraft Company in the 1950s. This particular aircraft, G-AXUM, was the first HP137 to be delivered to the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1954. The HP137 Jestream was a versatile aircraft, capable of carrying passengers, cargo, or even being converted into a freighter or aerial refueling tanker. With a maximum speed of 318 miles per hour and a range of over 2,000 miles, this aircraft was a valuable asset to the RAF's transport fleet. The photograph showcases the Jestream's distinctive wing design, which featured a wingtip shape inspired by the wingtip of the Handley Page Hampden bomber from World War II. The wings were also designed to provide excellent lift at low speeds, making the aircraft ideal for short takeoffs and landings. The HP137 Jestream served with the RAF until the late 1960s, when it was eventually retired from service. Today, this iconic aircraft is fondly remembered by aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike for its contributions to British aviation history. This photograph is a beautiful reminder of the grace and power of the Handley Page HP137 Jestream, G-AXUM, as it gracefully navigated the skies.
