EDITORS COMMENTS
This Stamp Card print, published by Ottmar Zeihar in Uruguay around 1904, showcases an intriguing collection of 180 stamps that were unobtainable or too expensive for philatelists at the time. The cards were created as a means for collectors to expand their knowledge and appreciation of the philatelic world. The smaller countries represented in this set had very low printing runs, making some of the cards extremely rare. The unique design of these Zeihar cards featured an embossed stamp image, which unfortunately was not approved by postal authorities due to the potential confusion with actual postage stamps. The Stamp Card collection offers a montage of various stamp designs, showcasing the crests, coats of arms, and emblems of different countries and regions. The cards serve as a testament to the rich history and diversity of the stamp-issuing world during the early 1900s. The unusual and regional designs featured on these cards add an element of intrigue and excitement for collectors. For instance, this particular print includes examples from Uruguay, which was an emerging nation in South America during this period. Despite their fascinating history and rarity, used Zeihar cards are difficult to find due to their unique design and the fact that they were not officially endorsed by postal authorities. This Stamp Card print is an excellent addition to any philatelic collection, providing a glimpse into the past and showcasing the beauty and diversity of stamps from around the world.
