Artwork of Hubble Space Telescope and Eagle Nebula

Hubble Space Telescope. Artwork of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) in Earth orbit, facing the giant gas and dust pillars of the Eagle Nebula (M16). This spectacular nebula image of star formation was taken by the HST. Reflected on the telescope is Earths blue atmosphere, water and clouds. Two solar arrays (rectangular) that power the HST are seen. The telescope has a 2.4 metre primary mirror and makes observations at ultra- violet, optical and infrared wavelengths. Unaffec- ted by the Earths atmosphere, HST images are 10 times more detailed than from ground telescopes. Fingers emerging from pillars of the Nebula contain dense regions which are stars being born

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the awe-inspiring artwork of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) as it gazes into the vast expanse of the Eagle Nebula (M16). The HST, stationed in Earth orbit, captures a mesmerizing image of star formation within this spectacular nebula. Reflected on its surface are glimpses of our own planet's blue atmosphere, water bodies, and clouds. Visible in the image are two rectangular solar arrays that power this remarkable telescope. With its 2.4-meter primary mirror, the HST conducts observations across ultra-violet, optical, and infrared wavelengths. Unlike ground telescopes affected by Earth's atmosphere, images captured by the HST exhibit an astounding level of detail that is ten times greater. As we delve deeper into this cosmic masterpiece, fingers emerge from within pillars of gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula. These dense regions signify new stars being born amidst this celestial nursery. The combination of artistry and scientific exploration embodied by this photograph truly encapsulates humanity's quest to unravel the mysteries of our universe. This extraordinary artwork serves as a testament to both human ingenuity and our insatiable curiosity about what lies beyond our world. (Photo credit: Science Photo Library)
