Thrust SSC supersonic car and team C016 / 2051
Thrust SSC supersonic car and team. Testing took place here at Farnborough, UK, in 1996. On October 15th 1997, in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA, Thrust SSC became the first land vehicle to break the sound barrier. Piloted by Andy Green (right, born 1962), Thrust SSC achieved speeds of over 1227 kilometres per hour (kph) over a mile and over 1223 kph over a kilometre, breaking the speed of sound on both runs. Team leader Richard Noble (left, born 1946) had himself set a land speed record in 1983

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the iconic Thrust SSC supersonic car and its dedicated team, C016 / 2051. Taken during testing at Farnborough, UK in 1996, this image captures the essence of a groundbreaking moment in automotive history. On October 15th, 1997, in the vast expanse of the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA, Thrust SSC shattered all expectations by becoming the first land vehicle to break through the sound barrier. Piloted by Andy Green - a remarkable individual born in 1962 - this engineering marvel achieved mind-boggling speeds exceeding 1227 kilometers per hour over one mile and over 1223 kph over one kilometer on both runs. The visionary leader behind this audacious project is Richard Noble himself; an accomplished record breaker who had previously set a land speed record back in 1983. Together with his exceptional team of engineers and researchers, they pushed boundaries that were once thought impossible. This photograph not only symbolizes human ingenuity but also represents a pivotal moment where technology triumphed against physical limitations. The determination etched on their faces reflects their unwavering commitment to pushing beyond what was deemed feasible. As we gaze upon this historical snapshot from the late twentieth century, it serves as a reminder that innovation knows no bounds when passion meets expertise. This image encapsulates an extraordinary chapter in British engineering history and stands as a testament to mankind's relentless pursuit of progress.
