EDITORS COMMENTS
This engraving takes us back to the bustling streets of 19th century London, offering a glimpse into the now-vanished stables of Crosse & Blackwell in Crown Street, known today as Charing Cross Road. The image showcases the architectural prowess of R L Roumieu, who designed these magnificent stables in 1876. Standing proudly against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving cityscape, these stables were not just functional buildings but also works of art. With intricate details and grandeur befitting their purpose, they housed horses that played an integral role in transporting goods for Crosse & Blackwell. Sadly, progress often comes at a cost. However, this print allows us to appreciate their beauty and significance even after their physical existence has faded away. The Builder magazine featured this illustration on April 15th, 1876 – immortalizing a moment frozen in time before urban development reshaped the landscape forever. Today, it serves as a reminder of the rich history embedded within every corner of our cities. Thanks to Bridgeman Images' preservation efforts and Fine Art Finder's dedication to sharing cultural heritage with audiences worldwide, we can still marvel at this piece from English School's collection. Let it transport you back to an era when horse-drawn carriages echoed through cobblestone streets and architectural wonders like Crosse & Blackwell's st
