EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating print that showcases the remarkable life of Suleiman Pasha. Born as Joseph Anthelme Seve in 1788, he served as an officer in Napoleon Bonaparte's army before undergoing a profound transformation. Suleiman converted to Islam and was subsequently recruited by the Egyptian army in the 1820s to implement European-style reforms. The image captures Suleiman Pasha on horseback, exuding authority and confidence as he inspects his troops during a parade or review. Dressed in a distinguished military uniform, he epitomizes strength and leadership. The vibrant colors of the photograph bring to life the rich history of 19th century Egypt and France. After returning to France in 1845, Suleiman Pasha received recognition for his contributions. King Louis-Philippe bestowed upon him the prestigious title of Grand Officer of the Legion d'honneur. This honor reflects not only his military prowess but also his significant role in bridging cultural gaps between Europe and Egypt.
