EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken in 1927, showcases the awe-inspiring Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, this architectural marvel has stood the test of time for over 4,500 years, making it a symbol of ancient Egyptian civilization and human achievement. The Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids located in the Giza pyramid complex, on the outskirts of Cairo. It was built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu and is believed to have taken 20 years to construct. The pyramid's original height was estimated to be around 146.5 meters (481 feet), although it has since lost about a quarter of its original height due to erosion and the removal of its outer casing stones. The pyramid's perfect symmetry and precise angles continue to baffle historians and archaeologists, who are still unsure of the exact methods used to construct these monumental structures. The pyramid's interior contains three narrow chambers, the largest of which is the burial chamber, where the pharaoh's mummy was believed to have been placed. This photograph, taken over 90 years ago, offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back to a time when the Pyramid of Giza stood alone in the desert, a testament to the ingenuity and ambition of ancient Egyptians. Today, it continues to draw millions of visitors each year, inspiring wonder and admiration from people all around the world.
