EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the elegant and enigmatic figure of Nancy Leeds, better known as Princess Anastasia of Greece, on the occasion of her marriage to Prince Christopher of Greece in 1920. Born as Nonnie May Stewart, Nancy hailed from a wealthy American family and had previously married twice before finding love with the Greek prince. The six-year engagement between the couple was marked by much anticipation and excitement, particularly given Nancy's substantial fortune. The image shows Nancy wearing a stunning tiara adorned with pearls and diamonds, a fitting accessory for her new role as a Greek princess. Her figure is gracefully posed, exuding an air of refinement and sophistication. The historical significance of the photograph lies in the fact that Nancy's fortune came at a crucial time for the Greek royal family, who were facing financial hardships during this period. Despite her joyous new status, Nancy's marriage to Prince Christopher was short-lived. Tragically, she died of cancer just three years after their union. This poignant photograph serves as a reminder of the brief but meaningful chapter of Nancy's life as a Greek princess, and the impact her fortune had on the royal family's history.
