John McCormack: The Irish Tenor who Captivated the World This stunning photograph captures the young and vibrant John McCormack, born in Athlone, Ireland, in 1884. At the time of this image, circa 1912, McCormack was already making a name for himself as one of the most celebrated operatic tenors of his generation. Born into a musical family, McCormack's natural talent was evident from an early age. He began his musical training as a choirboy in his local cathedral and went on to study at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin.
