EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Clayton Arms pub, located on Kensal Road in London's Notting Hill area. The image, taken in the 1910s, shows the red brick and tiled exterior of the pub with its ornate signage and decorative details. The Clayton Arms was once a popular local watering hole, having been in operation since at least 1913, as evidenced by the trading record detailed on the reverse of this print. Unfortunately, the pub's history came to an end in the 1950s when it was closed down. The building met its demise in 1919, making way for the development of flats. The Charrington and Company Limited, a well-known brewery at the time, had owned the pub prior to its closure. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back to a time when the Clayton Arms was a hub of activity and community. The image invites us to imagine the lively conversations and laughter that once filled its cozy interior. Today, the site where the pub once stood is a reminder of the rich history and ever-changing landscape of London's streets.
