EDITORS COMMENTS
Princess Xenia Georgievna of Russia, radiantly smiling on the cover of Sketch magazine's October 12, 1921 issue, proudly showcases her newfound happiness following her recent wedding to American businessman, William Leeds. The Russian princess, who was the granddaughter of Tsar Nicholas II, had been in exile since the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917. The wedding took place in Paris, France, and the couple's only child, Nancy Helen Marie Leeds, was born just a few months later. The image captures the joy and elegance of the newlywed, dressed in a stylish gown and accessorized with a pearl necklace and tiara. This photograph, a favorite of Princess Xenia, marked a brief moment of happiness and normalcy amidst the turmoil and uncertainty of her exiled life. The marriage, however, did not last long, and the couple divorced in 1930. Despite the short-lived union, this image serves as a reminder of the resilience and grace of Princess Xenia in the face of adversity.
