Egyptian mathematical papyrus, Moscow
Egyptian mathematical papyrus. Known as the Moscow Mathematical Papyrus, this roll of papyrus is from Ancient Egypt and dates from the beginning of the 2nd millennium BC. It was purchased in Thebes in the 1890s by Russian Egyptologist Vladimir Golenishchev. The 5.5-metre-long scroll contains 25 mathematical problems, including algebra, arithmetic and geometry.
