Hip joint bones and anatomy, artwork C014 / 2032

Hip joint bones and anatomy. Artwork of the bones that form the two hip joints (right and left). The hip is a ball-and-socket joint that provides the mobility needed for walking and running. The hip socket is a cavity in the acetabulum bone of the pelvis, a set of bones that join to the spine in the main body torso. The ball of the hip joint, shown disarticulated at left, is the head of the femur (thigh bone). This head is joined by a neck to the femoral shaft. The base of the spine is at top centre, including lower vertebrae and the sacrum and coccyx. Other prominent pelvis bones are the ilium (wing-shaped, above hip) and ischium (loop, below hip)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate details of hip joint bones and anatomy. The artwork, titled C014 / 2032, provides a comprehensive view of the bones that form both hip joints - right and left. The hip joint is a remarkable ball-and-socket joint that plays a crucial role in enabling us to walk and run with ease. The image highlights the key components of this complex joint. On the left side, we see the disarticulated head of the femur (thigh bone), which is connected to its shaft by a neck. This femoral head fits perfectly into the acetabulum bone's cavity in the pelvis, forming a stable connection for movement. Surrounding these vital structures are other prominent bones of the pelvis such as ilium (above hip) and ischium (below hip). These wing-shaped and loop-like structures contribute to overall stability while allowing flexibility. Atop center lies the base of our spine, including lower vertebrae along with sacrum and coccyx. Together, they form an integral part of our body's main torso structure. With its black background contrasting against white skeletal illustrations, this artwork beautifully captures various aspects related to biology, anatomy, osteology, arthrology, and more. It serves as an educational tool for understanding normal skeletal structure while emphasizing healthy joints' importance in maintaining mobility and overall well-being.
