Crafted from brass, this remarkable piece of religious art measures 17.8x27.9x0.2 cm and is currently housed at the Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums. The plaque serves as a poignant memorial for Reverend John Coulson, who faithfully served as the Vicar of the parish for an impressive span of 24 years until his passing on September 3rd, 1896. The inscription on the plaque reads: "The three centre panels of this Reredos were erected in loving memory of the Revd. John Coulson M. A. , for 24 years the Faithful Vicar of this Parish". Adorned with a meticulously engraved decorative border, this stunning piece features six holes strategically drilled into its corners and center motifs for wall fixing purposes. Interestingly, although not explicitly stated on this particular plaque, it shares an identical decorative border with another item attributed to Edward M. Through its intricate craftsmanship and historical significance, this altar plaque offers us a glimpse into both artistic mastery and heartfelt remembrance within Holy Trinity Church's rich heritage in South Shields.
