EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a remarkable incident involving an English paratrooper during the early 20th century. In a daring attempt to descend from an airplane, the brave soldier found himself carried by the wind over a zoo instead of his intended destination. Miraculously, he managed to catch himself with a parachute on the railing of a lion cage. As soon as he landed in this unexpected location, chaos ensued. The roaring beasts inside the cage attempted to leap towards him, their powerful instincts triggered by his presence. However, swift action was taken by a courageous animal tamer who arrived just in time to calm and control the agitated lions. With danger still lurking nearby, the paratrooper skillfully maneuvered along the bars of the lion cage while descending. Torn between relief and trepidation, he made it safely to solid ground amidst this extraordinary spectacle. Illustrating an article published in Courier Sunday on September 30th, 1934, this color lithograph showcases both courage and resilience in face of unforeseen circumstances. Beltrame Achille's artistic talent brings this incredible story to life with vivid detail and emotion. This image serves as a reminder that even when our plans go astray or we find ourselves facing unexpected challenges, determination and quick thinking can lead us through perilous situations unscathed. It is a testament to human ingenuity and bravery in overcoming adversity against all odds.
