Following the truce with France which necessitated the evacuation of French fortresses in Maine and elsewhere, a violent outcry arose against Suffolk and Somerset. The English refused to accept defeat and resented bitterly the terms of the truce. Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester, therefore took the lead in an agitation.
