He began his professional baseball career in 1908 with the Minneapolis Millers of the American Association and was later traded to the Boston Americans in 1911. Hall quickly made a name for himself as a reliable pitcher, leading the American League in wins in 1912 with a record of 24-13. The photograph, taken during the 1913 season, shows Charley Hall in his element, dressed in his baseball uniform and standing on the pitcher's mound.
