EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Sir Isaac Newton, a brilliant English mathematician, astronomer, and physicist from the 19th century. Created by Freeman, this artwork showcases Newton's profound impact on science and thought through his groundbreaking discoveries. Known for formulating the laws of gravity and motion in his monumental work "Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica" published in 1687, Newton's contributions to mathematics are immeasurable. Beyond his achievements in physics, he also delved into optics and light theory which led him to construct the first reflecting telescope. Knighted by Queen Anne in 1705 for his exceptional intellect, Newton found eternal rest at Westminster Abbey in London. In this portrait engraved by Sir Godfrey Kneller, we see a distinguished man with a wig symbolizing the fashion of that era.
