"The English House" in Dantzic, 1857. Building in Gdansk, Poland, built by Hans Kramer in 1568-1570. This is an interesting specimen of the picturesque street architecture of the ancient town of Dantzic, noted for its fine old style of building. The lofty gabled facade is upwards of four centuries old: it was built in the year 1440, by the Guild of English Cloth Merchants, as their depot and place of business. The front has never undergone any alteration, and is now as it was erected. The house has for the last century been used as an hotel, &c. - the best in the city; frequented by the officers of the English fleet when any of the ships put into Dantzic'. From "Illustrated London News", 1857
