Horse drawn milk float a98_16568

BURY ST EDMUNDS, Suffolk. Some commodities were still delivered using a horse and cart in the post-war years. Coal and milk were two products that used this method of delivery until relatively recently. Even in major towns it was not unusual to see a horse-drawn Rag and Bone mans wagon in the 1960s and 70s. Photographed by Hallam Ashley in May 1947

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to a bygone era in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. In the post-war years, when modernization was slowly creeping into our lives, some commodities were still delivered using traditional methods. One such method was the horse-drawn milk float, as depicted in this timeless image. The photograph captures a serene scene of everyday life with a majestic horse pulling the milk float through the streets of Bury St Edmunds. The horse's powerful presence is juxtaposed against the quaintness of its surroundings, reminding us of simpler times when technology had not yet taken over.
