The Munich Air Crash is a dark chapter in the history of Manchester United Football Club. The team, known as the "Busby Babes," was on its way back from a European Cup match in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, when the aircraft carrying them and several team officials crashed due to a snowstorm in Munich, Germany. Among the fatalities were eight players and three members of the club's coaching staff. The memorial, designed by sculptor Harry Gray, was unveiled on February 6, 1961, on the second anniversary of the disaster. It consists of a simple, elegant obelisk, surrounded by a circular paving, and features the names of those who perished in the crash.
