EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Tivoli Villa Maecenas, an exquisite architectural masterpiece from the late 18th century. The image captures the essence of this magnificent villa, with its stunning Cascatelle (waterfalls) that add a touch of natural beauty to the surroundings. Created using pen, black ink, brush, blue-gray wash, and graphite on a sheet measuring 8 7/8 x 16 inches (225 x 406 cm), this drawing is a remarkable copy after John Robert Cozens. Cozens himself was a British watercolorist based in London during the years 1752-1797. In 1794, he unfortunately suffered a nervous breakdown and sought care from Dr. Thomas Monro, who not only served as his physician but also became his patron in appreciating exceptional contributions to the arts. As part of his support for young artists like Cozens, Monro employed them to create beautiful artworks. Artokoloro has skillfully reproduced this historic drawing through their meticulous printing process. This print allows us to admire and appreciate Cozens' talent while providing us with an opportunity to own a piece of art history. It serves as a testament to both Cozens' artistic prowess and Dr. Monro's dedication towards nurturing emerging talents in the art world.
