The men, dressed in typical Costermonger attire, are clad in worn clothing, with Phil, on the left, asking his companion, "Who was the bloke I see yer speakin' to last night?" The question is met with a casual response from his friend, "Wot sort o bloke?" Phil clarifies, "He had a Collar on." His companion, seemingly unimpressed, retorts, "O, he warn't up to much." The Costermongers, or "Costers," were itinerant street traders who sold fruits, vegetables, and other goods from their barrows in the streets of London. Their distinctive dress, characterized by a collarless jacket and a flat cap, was a symbol of their working-class status.
