Kensington & Chelsea District School, Boys Band

In 1876, the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea established a District School for pauper children at Banstead, Surrey (later known as Beechholme). As well as cottage homes, each housing 40 children, the site had its own schools, infirmary, chapel, swimming pool etc. The schools military band performed at local events and led to a career in the army or navy for some of its members. The schools name can be seen on the bass drum
