Sri Lanka - Ceylon. Her tea and other industries

A larger version of this uncommon pictorial poster map was originally published by the Ceylon Tea Propaganda Board in 1933. This revised version was printed on behalf of the successor organization, The Ceylon Tea Centre, which opened outlets in London, Manchester and Glasgow during the 1950s and 60s. Originally designed by McDonald Gill, this copy is the only one we've seen that has a label for Sri Lanka carefully positioned over the original Ceylon heading, which would have been done following the country's change of name in 1972. Date: circa 1960s

EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage poster map showcases the diverse industries of Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon) during the mid-1960s. The large-format, uncommon pictorial poster was originally published by the Ceylon Tea Propaganda Board in 1933 and later revised on behalf of The Ceylon Tea Centre. The Tea Centre, which had outlets in London, Manchester, and Glasgow during the 1950s and 60s, took over the publication of this map. Designed by the renowned graphic artist Leslie MacDonald Gill, this map highlights Sri Lanka's thriving tea industry, as well as its other significant industries such as rubber, coconuts, and minerals. The map's intricate details and vibrant colors effectively convey the richness and diversity of the country's economy during this period. Of particular note is the careful positioning of the label for Sri Lanka over the original Ceylon heading, which was done following the country's name change in 1972. This revised version of the map is a rare find, as the original Ceylon Tea Propaganda Board posters are not commonly available. This artwork is a fascinating glimpse into the economic landscape of Sri Lanka during the mid-20th century and is a must-have for collectors of vintage travel and industry posters.
