EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage advertisement captures the essence of Richards Shops - a fashion haven that delighted women in the 1960s. The photo print, dating back to around 1960, showcases the cleverly crafted clothes that made this shop a go-to destination for stylish ladies. Displayed between films in cinemas during the 1950s, this particular slide enticed viewers with its vibrant display of fashionable suits and elegant ensembles. Located at 52 Darley Street in Bradford, Yorkshire, Richards Shops started as a small retail fashion chain but quickly expanded into a powerhouse with over 240 outlets by 1999. The image reflects an era when Richard Shops was part of Sears Womenswear, under the ownership of Arcadia Group - one of the UK's leading clothing retailers. However, after facing challenging market conditions and declining sales figures, Richard Shops were sold off in 2000. Michael Martin skillfully captured this moment in time through his lens, preserving not only the visual appeal but also the nostalgia associated with these iconic advertisements. This print serves as a reminder of how Richards Shops once reigned supreme as a trusted provider of trendy attire for women across Britain
