The poster shows a view of Rugby School which was founded in 1567 and moved to its present site in 1750. The buildings shown here date from the early nineteenth century. The view shown is from the School Close, where the game of rugby was first conceived. The building shown is the Old Schools. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971), who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for several railway companies and organised the Royal Academy series of posters for the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) in 1924
